The next meeting of the Chippendale Residents Interest Group will be held at the Pine Street Creative Arts Centre, 64 Pine Street, Chippendale this Tuesday, 8 February 2005, at 7pm

Topics will include the CUB and Notre Dame University redevelopments, tree management and the Redfern Waterloo Authority Bill.

If I get there, it'll be my first community meeting.

Blackfriars Public School

In the Chippendale Peace Park there's a mosaic that maps the suburb, dated 1995 I think. It shows a Blackfrairs Public School on Blackfriars Street. There's certainly no school there now. Does anyone know what happened to it and when? As far as I can tell, the closest high schools to Chippendale these days are those in Glebe and Ultimo.

Peasants Feast

We walked down City Road to King Street and checked out the Peasants Feast on Friday.

They serve provincial European food which I hoped would remind us of our only driving trip through France and Italy. On the whole, the food was quite good, but I wouldn't rave about it.

I thought it was taking a loooong time to cook until I read the blurb on the menu which explained they cook things on low heat, which I figured was to stop those cancer-causing burnt bits. (The place is now owned by an immunologist and many of the ingrediants are organic, with detailed explanations.)

The waitress with the short hair was trying to be nice but you could tell she really didn't want to be there. The waiter with long curly hair went out of his way to make sure we were comfortable.

From there it's a quiet walk down to the corner of King and Wilson Sts, from where you can head back to Chippendale via the Shepherd St route.
