Marian Street Park

A fight is brewing over Marian Street Park, that sliver of greenery behind Redfern Station.

Yes, that sleeve of green space is threatened by an 18 story complex of buildings. The RWA wants to sell it off to investors. The Money will be used for the creation of a new Redfern station, instead of using government funds. Residents of Refern Waterloo believe that any monies made from the sale of public land should be put back into the community.

A real solution to what the RWA (Redfern Waterloo Authority) calls the disconnects caused by the traffic corridor on Gibbons and Regent street would be digging a tunnel for vehicles under the Gibbons and Redfen St junction (the current pedestrian exit from Redfern Station).

Over development of the area does not seem like a long term solution. It would completely change the character of the area, taking away from the good things that Redfern has to offer.
