That work experience kid

That work experience kid who was creating infographics for The Daily Telegraph has moved on to the Sydney Morning Herald, where he or she is representing a doubling a household credit by quadrupling the size of a bar on a chart.

Expect another four years of transport hell

According to REDWatch, the transport portfolio is split across transport, ports and roads, with the first of these portfolios being an after-hours gig for the minister for finance.

For God's sake, can we just have one full-time minister for transport running one, integrated transport (or transport and planning) department?

NSW Election 2007

It's a tough choice.

Either I vote Labor, and accelerate global warming by building a desalination plant.

Or I vote Liberal, and accelerate global warming by building more freeways.

Or I vote Green, and help elect the kind of half-wits who either don't know or don't care that Che Guevara ran a death camp on behalf of the Castro regime.

Or I vote Democrat knowing that if I do, the only decision that really matters is where I direct my preferences.

Like I said, it's a tough choice. It's the night before the election and I still haven't made up my mind.

Mandla's campaign for the seat of Sydney

I've resubscribed to Edward Mandla's site as those annoying technical problems seem to have been fixed.

Head on over to ZDNet for a perspective on the use of YouTube in Edward's campaign.

At last, a CUB campain I can support

Greens Councilor Chris Harris and Darlinghurst resident Matthew Drake-Brockman are challenging the CUB development in the Land & Environment Court on the grounds that it will be wasteful of water and energy.

At last, a CUB campaign I can support.

Long-time readers will know I've got no patience for NIMBY arguments against tall towers and high-density living at CUB. It's the city! And sharing our neighbourhood with lots of human beings is one of the secrets to bringing it to life.

However, I believe every development — whether a high-rise in Chippendale or a McMansion in Castle Hill — should be judged in part on its environmental efficiency.

Why single out development for judgment? Because the decisions we make now abut housing stock will affect the decisions that occupants make about their resource use for as long as the buildings stand.

Chris and Matthew argue that a sustainable development at CUB could use much less water and energy. As long as their measure is consumption per head — rather than total consumption, which can be reduced simply by moving the human beings and their resource use to another suburb — then they have my complete support.
