 Life in Chippendale

In which we bang on about landmarks, eyesores, politics, controversies, incidents, events, people, restaurants, pubs, shops, urban history and development affecting the south Sydney area, or anything or anywhere else...

More from that work experience kid

That work experience kid who started out creating infographics for The Daily Telegraph and Sydney Morning Herald is now writing captions for the Australian Financial Review, including this corker:

"Many universities are committed to sustainable ideals but few transform this into action" (30 July 2007, p31.)

Surely, he or she meant "Many universities are espousing sustainable ideas..." After all, commitment entails action.

Meanwhile, the tone of most of the article was refreshingly positive, highlighting sustainable projects underway at Bond University and elsewhere..

LMC revisited

Grab Your Fork has reviewed this Shepherd St institution.

For my money, the location is all wrong. The inside seems cavernous, while the outside is just a couple of tables.

"Get ready Sydney!"

This is such a sorry waste of public money. Unbelievable.

Hugo's accident and recovery

Hugo, we're so glad you're still among us!

A few weeks ago, my wife Susan suspected something was wrong when she dropped in on the fabulous Cafe Ella and found it was closed. Stopping for a coffee, a bagel, a chat with Priscilla and a play with Hugo had become one of her rituals.

Then we heard there'd been a terrible accident, and Hugo's throat had been cut. Yikes!

We'll Sunday's Sun-Herald closed the loop for us. Not only did it provide all the terrifying details, it also published a smiling photo of a recovering Hugo, which is a huge relief.

Today I feel sick and dirty

Our government has admitted that securing oil supplies was a motive for the war in Iraq.

Independent newspapers and local community

I've just registered to attend this talk by South Sydney Herald co-editor Dorothy McRae-McMahon about the role of media in local communities. I wonder if her talk will encompass blogs and social media? In my view, it should.
