Open day at sustainable house

I've always wanted to see inside the sustainable house on Myrtle St. Now it looks like it's having an open day. Yippee!

Peace Park campaign

At the Duck & Swan Hotel last night, I was astonished to meet Kim and Jason. Astonished because they knew me from this blog, I knew them from their "Other Piece of Peace Park" campaign — but until we ran into each other at the pub we'd never met in the flesh. But I really shouldn't be so surprised — these sort of online/offline connections happen all the time.

Anyway, the campaign is to persuade the City of Sydney to buy a warehouse next to the Peace Park so it can be extended. If you'd like to know more, drop them a line at peace hyphen park at hotmail dot com.

Chippendalers on Facebook, Pt II

The Neighborhoods tool on Facebook now lists Chippendale as a location, but so far I'm the only one to select it. If you're in Facebook, click here to meet the locals.

Life is good...

...when you discover that TimeOut magazine is coming to Sydney. Awesome.

Now we just need kick-arse public transport a few more ultra-high-density developments and I'll really feel like we're living in Manhattan! :-)

SMH column about the CUB decision

Elizabeth Farrelly provides a reasonable overview of the issues.

I agree that the NSW government should show leadership by setting higher water and energy efficiency standards for all property developments across the state. This would complement the leadership they are already showing by promoting urban infill.

Meanwhile, there is also the opportunity for Frasers to set a new benchmark by creating a truly astonishing high-density green development.

Chinese art museum and teahouse

According to the Australian Financial Review, the City of Sydney has approved a new Chinese public art gallery and teahouse for Chippendale. The development application was still on the City of Sydney website when I checked, indicating the museum will be on the corner of Balfour and Wellington St. Sounds very interesting indeed.

Islamaphobia coming to a hall near you?

I wonder if the Humanist Society realises that its hall in Shepherd St is being used for this. Revolting.

Bike storage

At present, the kids' bikes are under the stairwell.

Note to self: when the adults are preparing to get bikes, revisit this post via Spinopsys on storage options.
