Learning from Marrickville Council

When it comes to managing the trees and playground in Victoria Park, the City of Sydney could learn a thing or two from Marrickville Council. The playground in their Camperdown Park is large, fun and safe — see the pic below. It's surrounded by shady trees that encourage residents to come out and play, even on the hottest days. I'm a huge fan. Pity it's so far away.

Hi Steven

Totally agree - it's a fabulous park. We go to Camperdown Park regularly. Marrickville Council also have their 'Yellow Bus' which stops out the front of the playground every Wednesday morning at 9:30am and sets ups a mobile playgroup with craft, painting, toys, puzzles, books, baby area etc. Three cheers for Marrickville Council !!

I spoke to CoS Council last year about the much talked about playground upgrade in Victoria Park. Who the heck knows what's happening though.... remember Clover Moore's comments in the brochure that was distributed when the pool upgrade was opened ? It stated that locals would be consulted in early 2007 re ideas for the playground upgrade.... but we're still waiting........

Marrickville does indeed do some nice parks, although I should point out that this one has poor drainage, often gets vandalised and had no shade cover for a while.
